Can anyone point me at some drawer runners (type thing) that could be used vertically, without falling apart?

I have been asked to investigate making a small tv lift. I know there are commercial available ones but where's the fun in that?

I'm thinking along the lines of (wiper) motor, screw type mech along with some guides and supports. A full reach drawer runner (or two, if the reach is too short) may work but it would need to preferably be a type that the two runners remain attached to each other unless 'unlocked', that is, not the standard kitchen drawer that just lifts to remove drawer from the runner.

thanks in advance :)

Hettich do some electrically operated drawer runners. Not sure how they work but they may give you ideas

Tailgate struts might help. I've got a big old drawing board which is lifted on a strut inside the telescopic column. It doesn't work but I'm sure it did for many years.

Cheers Mick , thats just the job and sensibly priced too.

Thanks Pac, they look jolly nice but I suspect they are a tad pricey (for experimenting with).
If you do try the full extension runners. I have found homebase to be the cheapest for them :)

Thanks Carl. I have a local* one of them so I can go and play before I pay :)
*only a 20 mile round trip .
LOL

Screwfix also sell them - slightly more than at homebase - if you have one closer? :)

Would an electric car window mechanism be big enough? Your local car scrappy might be able to help

Obviously not in the spirit of experimentation, but you can buy ready made mechanisms for the purpose eg

Even so looking around their range might give some ideas.

In the event that the tv might not have its centre of gravity in the horizontal centre, you can keep everything square and free from jamming but using pulleys and wires in the same way as the parallel motion on a drawing board works.
