In the latest edition of British Woodworking, there is an article on the making and using of Van Dyke Paste, a very good idea, I tried it, much more accurate for touching up small areas that its water based equivalent, and not so messy. As I have stated before, anything from very pale brown through to dense black may be obtained this way, but make sure you seal it!!!
