Hi,

Have just acquired a few leaves of nice figured and burr veneers I was wondering if anyone had use any for turning projects?

I've seen them used as layers in segmenting, but these are too nice for a 1mm separation layer. I'd like a full view of the veneer rather than just a thin edge.

I was thinking maybe as an inlay on a box top?

Cheers

I have used them as inlays in box lids etc. Hardest part is cutting them, use a scalpel or do it by gluing to a thin piece of board then cutting on the lathe and use the whole thing as the insert.

Many years ago, I did a marquetry image of a Clun Forest ram to go in the base of a small bowl for my uncle, who was a well-known breeder of Cluns. Said uncle died in the 1990s, so no idea where it is now, but I was quite pleased with the result and it seemed to be appreciated.

The Woodturning Mag did an article on it if I remember correctly, don't know if I can find it.

This is one of the simpler ones I remember seeing elsewhere.
