Toy box

Hi all,

I've been commissioned to make a box to hold a bubble tube for a little girl, who has few health problems.
The box will be made from 18mm MRMDF and the top is to be made in two halves to hinge outwards, with the bubble tube coming up through the center.

The tops will each be 600 wide and 300 deep, upholstered so she can sit on the box to play with the tube. I need to find some suitable hinges for the tops, to fit on the 600 sides, which will stay open at 90ish degrees and soft close, to prevent tiny fingers getting hurt. Does anyone have any ideas where I can obtain such hinges?

Hi you can get torsion hinges which act like laptop hinges and hold the lid in any position, rutlands have them, http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cgi-bin/psPro ... &submit=Go but they are limited to one size if you need larger ones you can get them from Rockler

On the toyboxes i have made in the past I used these soft close stays which work very well.

I then use normal butt hinges and the stays to hold the lid at whatever angle is needed. HTH. :wink:
