tolerance for larger blade sizes

Hi

I have a stayer mitre saw 205mm and a bosch circular saw 160mm

Im finding some decent blades but they are 5mm in diameter bigger than the tool is specced for. So my question is, do these tools have a tolerance for slightly oversized blades or is that a no no? Anybody done this before?

They may have. Do you have any clearance on things when you fit the standard sized blades?

I use the 165mm versions in my makita 18v saw and they are great for the money.

Trend/ freud/ dewalt/makita/ bosch do 160mm blades as that is a common size for the plunge saws

Thabks both. I tried measuring the tolerances as best I could but it does seem rather tight. Does blades you posted above are good value - might as well go for the right size with those prices.

Sammy 2.5mm added to the radius shouldn't foul anything - but you could cut a cardboard or plastic disc of the larger size and try it in the machine to check

Just tape a piece of wood to a tooth on the existing blade and see it it touches... Or how far you can stick it out before it does.... Will tell you the maximum.

I bought the axcalibre 165mm blade (fine cut) and it's very good.

Curiously, it says under no circumstances should it be used to cut with the grain... seems odd... why can't you use it to cut with the grain?

Tooth count, the more teeth on a blade the harder it is for the blade to clear the gullets ( space between teeth) when ripping timber. The gullets would block up, slow the saw down and then most people would try to force the saw resulting in either a burnt blade or blown up motor.
On my makita saw which takes 165mm blades - for ripping i use the 12 tooth blade. With a fresh battery it flies through 2 inch timbers

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'll be ordering another blade then for the rip cuts
