I was about to start making these from pine, then I suddenly thought about resin leakage over time. So... Any better suggestions for something cheap that wont cause problems down the line. Tulip?

Thanks,

Pat

Ordinary pine/redwood here - if you think there might be some resin leakage (not very likely IMO) you could just put some thick paper on the shelves at first.

Tulip's a great choice, easy to find dry, straight grained stuff at a reasonable price; easy to work, glues like a dream, and it stays flight as a pancake.

Pity it looks like cr@p!

Redwood spar, 40p /m. Works well.

I used softwood and haven't had any problems. I think I tried to cut around the knots and haven't had any problems. I used yellow (passivated, for outdoors) screws.

I bought the wood from a timber merchant; which, had a lot less knots than the stuff they sell in homebase, B&Poo etc.
