hi woodfarmer, that really does look like nice wood. If I may offer some constructive criticism tho, I would say I like more curves on my bowls, just like my wimmin! :D

Fruit wood is glorious isn't it. Good effort Larry. It might be worth cutting a few bowl blanks shallower.....say 3" deep. That way, you'll really just have one curve to sweep round. That pear tree was no shrinking violet though was it...what was the girth at the root?

At the base it was about 60 cm.. The wood I got had all been cut into relatively short rounds so couldn't fully exploit the timber. Saying that I have a piece of yew tree trunk, here that is a bit over 60 cm diameter and length. But what could I do with a 60+ cm diameter bowl??? It is a quandary as it seems a waste to cut it, But I have no where to put such a large bowl. The pear cuts beautifully even now when it is dry still get ribbons of continuous shavings from it.

This is the original blank last winter, turned and waxed for drying. As you can see it has developed a lot more colouring.

Yes, this is the first time I have turned blanks that have dried from rough turned wood. There wasn't much room to develop the bottom curve as by the time I got it round, there wasn't anything between me and the chuck jaws whizzing around. Will remember that in future.
