Does it eventually disappear or should I be putting something else on top like wax?

I naively thought that as it was safe for food etc (as per the tin description) then it would be odour free and not the sick-making smell that it exudes

Which brand are you using? It normally goes away after a week or so (unless you have used it on the inside surfaces, in which case it never goes away)
A coat of wax will seal it to a degree but I'd just wait for it to totally cure.
Hope this helps

Roger,

I have used loads of Liberon finishing oil, just let it air the smell goes. :D

If you use it inside drawers then leave them open or it will linger. I have started to use Chestnut Lemon oil inside drawers, gentle lemon smell when you open them. Just does not build like the finishing oil.

I've found that if you cannot live with the smell a thin coat of shellac wiped over the surfaces will seal it in.
Hope this helps
Philly :D
