Hi all

Finally did some scroll saw work the other day and found it very difficult to cut a smooth curve up against the line. I was cutting a 'smooth' curve in 18mm MDF.

So, is it down to practice? skill? better blades? technique?

How do I cut in the direction i want along a long, smooth curve without wandering?

Thanks for any advice

Practice and a good sharp blade will certainly help, as will a slow feed rate. In 18mm MDF the feed rate will need to be quite slow. The other option is to cut to just outside of the line and use a drum sander to take it back to the line exactly - you would be amazed how often that is done!

Steve.

Tony,

In my experience the long smooth curve is the most difficult cut with a scrollsaw.

It does get easier with practice, or as Steve has said, cut outside the line and and back (that's what I end up doing half the time!).

Gary
