Telephone connection

Hi

I'm trying to connect a new handset to the BT box at the workshop. Unfortunately I have lost the connecting cable. I have tried buying a new cable(twice) but they do not work. It's male plug at both ends with four cores. They plug bin OK but no dialling tone. A cable from another phone, which looks identical, does work. Any suggestions? The phone set is a BT Graphite.

is this the cable that connects the wall socket to the phone or the handset to the main body of the phone?

have you got a phone lead or are you trying to use a PC modem lead I think they are wired differently inside?

I agree, I am pretty sure they are crossed, you need a specific phone lead not a modem lead
