I have a very old wood lathe and want to add a Chuck on the tail stock.
It has a 0.5 inch diameter hole
Size MT1 taper arbor is only just to small and MT2 will not fit.
Can anyone help please

I don't understand why you would want a chuck on the tailstock. you need that end to have a revolving centre. Plese let us know how you intend to work this.

I screw wood to the head stock on a plate. With a centre on the tail stock. Turn a vase.
Then remove the centre and replace with a Chuck and drill, to drill out a hole for the flowers

Could you get a local engineer shop to reduce a mt2 chuck tail?

easy if you take a tail centre in with you for them to copy.

Can you identify what make as it is might help.
It is definitely a tapered hole?
Please advise what is the profile of the revolving centre or whatever fits in the tailstock at the moment as thats a good guide as to what you need. A photo of both items would help if possible

A " very old wood lathe " may not have a standard morse taper in the tailstock.
Other standards did exist, pre morse. Best bet may be to sort a method of measuring the taper. An alternative may be to have the esisting taper reamed to present day standards. If you have a local model engineering club someone may be able and willing to help.
