I know nothing about electrics, so here goes.

I have a vacuum pump, which the previous owner operated through a foot switch. It is/was wired up through alighting junction box. he removed the foot switch, so now when plugged in it is on, when unplugged it is off. So far so good. It has a plug top going into one side, so 240v in, a wire fron the junction box to the motor casing (i assume is earth?) and a wire out going to the motor electrics.

I want to put a simple switch onto it. On/off. a toggle switch or 2 buttons, whichever. What do I need- I dont knwo what to search for and everything looks like it needs a box to contain it- again, I dont know what to search for.

If relevant, the switch is going on top of a ply (3 sided) box that I have made for the pump.
