I am going to be making something similar to this for my sons birthday

The thing is, for the little painted blocks i wanted to use different types of wood instead of painting them. Can anyone advise what woods are suitable for toys as i want 4 or 5 different colours of wood.

The main body is going to be Ash as i have plenty left from his cot.

Cheers

Pete

You'll need to avoid some of the exotics which some people are allergic to, but definitely safe to chew would include beech and sycamore (both used for kitchen utensils). Oak would also be non-toxic but possibly a bit splintery depending on what sort you can get.
