Big change of plan. The butterfly bowl is now going to be a scallop shell.

When I took it off the lathe it just looked too bland and then it struck me that the shape looked like a scallop shell. So I decided to cut the shell grooves in it. The picture is the work in it's early stages.

I'm not sure whether to leave the inside plain or whether to scallop carve that as well. I can make that decision once I've finished the outside. Any thoughts gratefully accepted.

Regards

Steve

Im no designer,

But i think the inside scalloped also to leave a consistent thickness would be fab.

yep another vote for carving the outside too, as then althought you intend it to be a scolop shell it could transform into other things in the viewers mind. wings, soft clouds, hair. love it
