My 12 year old lad loves his Quangsheng No1 - dad doesnt get a look in!!

He's a very reliable seller and wouldn't sell a fake. His items do go for more that the same item if we sold it on the bay, but that's coz of his photography and good listing. And there won't be a hidden secret like fracture to sole, threaded rod.
But I agree you for that money you could buy a very good bench plane setup. Needless to say this no1 is a collectable or an exspencirve joiner :)

I would never pay more than maximum 2 euros for a number one........... I can understand that a small person with small hands would use a number 2 for the kind of work where I prefere a number 3.......... but I cannot think of any practical use for a number 1........ unless the buyer is a midget who makes miniature ship models................
The absolute maximum price for a tool with no use is 2 euros in my world.

Your entitle to an opinion,
But I have to say if you saw a no1 for 3euros your telling me you wouldn't but one, ballpap!
The things with no1 planes is the hype the Americans give them I think, and they are mostly brought for collecting value not so much as a user.
I know people who use the LN no1 as a apron block plane and such.
To say it's for a midget is just plain insulting to both party's.
A practical use for a plane is to plane

Buy for 3 euros, sell for $600 dollars, buy useable tools!

Personally, if I was after a No.1 I'd rather have a brand new Lie-Nielsen for $225 USD, than an old Stanley for the same money, let alone two or three times the cost of the new LN. And better still would be a Superior Works (Patrick Leach) Bedrock No.601 for $695 USD http://www.supertool.com/601.htm .

If I bought a No.1 it would be for pleasure, not because I needed it. I'd get no pleasure from owning a Quangsheng, so it would have to be a Lie-Nielsen or Superior. It all a bit hypothetical though, I haven't afforded a No.2 yet #-o

Cheers, Vann. :ho2

I doubt I'd ever get any use from a #1 or a #2 if I'm honest. I don't tend to do any work on that small a scale that needs fine finishing.
