I am about to start making a stair case to access a mezzanine sleeping area in my daughters bedroom. As the room is fairly narrow I want to keep the stairs as narrow as practicable. What can my minimum width be ?

Thanks in advance

I don't think there is any regs for the width - as bonkers as that might seem

I guess you could do worse than imagine yourself using the stairs whilst holding on to a banister. Then use that as a starting point.

I would presume you need to be looking at whatever passes for French building regulations these days rather than the UK regs.

Try Googling Spacesaver stairs - lots of examples of saving width and how to get a steeper climb by using alternating treads.

Cheers

Tom
