Staining Ash

Hi all.
I am looking at making an Ottoman/Blanket box out of Ash but thought about making a frame and panels with the frame being a different colour, so instead of spending a fortune on Cherry or Walnut I was toying with the idea of staining the frame.
The questions are, does Ash stain well, what is the best stain to use and do you think I am doing do right thing.

If by what stain, you mean what type, and if you're not very experienced, stick with a water based one, it's very forgiving, you can buy non grain raising or if you wet the wood down first (not soak)it will raise the grain which you can lightly sand back so when you stain the grain raised will be minimal.
