If you want some extra evidence that the saw on offer is what the seller says, have a look at these prints by Hokusai, famous for the Great Wave - he also featured timber yards in some of his prints and showed the Japanese way of ripping baulks into planks, using a one-man, one-handed rip saw, on a trestle rather than over a pit.

Admittedly, the saws in these prints are a bit longer than the ebay saw, but they do show the radically different approach used by the Japanese.

As for sharpening, well, the second print shows how to do it - just pass it to the old guy filing away on the tree stump!

I've been looking for a hand resaw - do you think they'd have to take those nasty sharp teeth off to get it in the post ?

 :D Brilliant prints, Andy - my comment was just a facetious aside.

- I thought so - I was really just looking for an excuse to link to those pictures!

Love the prints, well worth waiting for the right post....

I was being silly with the post, but it does bear thinking about, Mmmmm.

Rip teeth, the blade must cause a lot of friction, hollow ground ?
The weight must be considerable, 21 inch to saw a 10 inch piece?

Whats its specialist use?

Silliness aside, anyone got any experience with this shape of saw?
