Nice.

Very nice! And another answer to Andy Kev's question - pre-machine-age-household-tool-kits-t104030.html

There's a very similar kit - but only the Odd-Job Standard, not the Major - in Simon Barley's recent book. Not BSSM, but his little book "British Saws A History and Collector's Guide" on page 70. He dates it to the 1930s, which looks right to me from the materials and styling.

I can't find a catalogue with it in - it's not in the S&J catalogue from 1923, which has a great selection of kits in cardboard boxes for cheapskates, polished oak for the middling folk and "stout stained wood" for farmers.

The wooden handled screwdriver looks exactly like a Stanley one that I have - with the little red plastic ring. Is it marked Stanley or did S&J get it re-badged?

My guess is wooden screwdriver and scraper might not be original, although the scraper is dead on for fit.
The Rawlplugger is snapped off, such a tiny holder.....
Simon says saw is under the STANDARD as well but that would be a small un :?
Due to pc glitch I missed one of those last Sunday
Good on the dates Andy ta
Also just received a S&J 70's ? version in absolutely unused condition :ho2
Need to pic that one for your perusal

Like one of these? From a 1971 price list.

[Image lost somewhere in the dust at Photobucket. Can't find the source again, sorry. ]

You can certainly find them!

Oh and I see what you mean about the screwdriver - it's not a good fit in its place.

here is the 1961 version - there were a few upgrades to the 'major' version by 1971!

Great to see these images.
Have to say we are looking at the R1500 from 1971 for the Spanky new set.
Still has plastic bags over the hammer and square.
Just the smallest of tainting on the tool clips and a couple being broken.
I was concerned about having it delivered but the seller did a sterling job...
Cheers
Andy

Sweet!

I hope you didn't have to pay any more than 9 guineas...
