Space Balls for cabinet doors?

Does anyone have much experience using the Space Balls for panel doors? I am building flat panels doors in and Arts and Crafts style kitchen and the panels are 1/4" solid quarter-sawn white oak, not plywood, so I am more concerned than usual about wood movement. I've never used the Space Balls before so I don't know if there are any tricks to them.
