The green and wetter end of the M4.
You know how ebay 'suggests' things you may like to purchase based on purchases you have made in the past (which baffles me a bit anyway, why would I want another rivet gun if I have just bought one?) anyway I digress.
one of the suggestions was this...

simple enough (apart from the threaded bit) interesting and useful. One for the memory banks I think :)

Anyone got any other unusual turned items for the ideas pile??

What a beautiful thing for the woman who has got everything. You just don't see this sort of item any more. I agree, certainly something worth trying to do.

Good find.

Well Nev, you asked for it.
All turned, 300mm/12in high 120mm/5in wide.

Tom,

You have the means to aspire - my piece is a variation from David Springett's book Woodturning a Full Circle - it's a variation on the piece that is on the cover top line second left.

Basically its three turned doughnuts which are then split in half and glued back together. One large doughnut and two smaller ones. If you look on the inside curve you can see the differing radii - one piece of the large doughnut is in the base and the other in the top piece.

Got in a mess with glue stains so enlisted the help of tekno.mage who frequents this forum, it was one of her suggestions to spray paint. I'm quite basic with finishing - it's not my forte - but this forum delivered. It is the first piece I have ever painted and to me it was almost sacrilege to paint wood - but the alternative was to lose the piece.

I am coming to terms with the painting.

Brian, I think it was in one of Richard Raffan's books on turning that he suggests turning practice forms and painting them black - without the distractions of the wood grain and colour you can better see the actual shape of what you've made - Richard Raffan then suggested you leave the ones you really like on a shelf in the workshop to provide inspiration!

Kym,

It is on a shelf in the workshop - but only because it doesn't fit anywhere in the house due to the colour.
My daughter has a white marble hearth and surround. I've found an old bowl that I'm sanding and will paint that black also.
That will provide balance and contrast on the hearth - the black on the white will look good - well that's my USP anyway - it remains to be seen if I get away with it.
