Nice finish, neat looking lid and interior as far as the fit goes, tidy little finial.

As a critique of the piece I would say that overall it's a bit lacking in life in the design due mainly to the wide square base, it lacks in any lift or elegance. However, coming to grips with good design is definitely something that takes time and experience, as well as actually being aware of it's value, so keep at it, this piece has the look that promises much potential for future projects.

Thanks for posting it up. :)

next up this small mahogany box 15cm in dia 7cm tall

Hmmm quite right about the base being too wide and flat as for design, well I probably never will be any good at that. I was always second grade at school and will more than likely be second grade at turning  no artistic streak in me that's my Achilles heel, very good at the practical stuff though.

Some small tea light holders

I quite like them. Design, or style, is not a measurable quality, like beauty it is in the eye ( and mind ) of the beholder.

Some lovely finishing there and no 'proof of chucking' left on the boxes, Mr Hannaby would be happy :)

About the first thing I did learn after mastering the basics was that finishing was the most important bit, then you can polish the hell out of it by whichever method suits the piece. For reverse mounting I use either cole jaws or a doughnut assembly, at least with the doughnut I can up the speed above the 600 rpm of the cole jaws safely.

I like the upside down ones, they're quirky. Seems to be the beginning of a series?

Everything is beautifully finished, I remember once being told that the finish is the most important because the first thing paople do is touch the piece. If it's smooth and silky, you've got it half sold, whatever the shape. If not, forget it

Very good collection and good finishing , If you are looking for inspiration for small boxes I'm sure CHJ would grant you permission if you were to ask nicely .

Something a little larger, wood is Mahogany inc the knife handle and oiled with a food safe finish.
The marble insert is 20cm dia the whole platter is 40cm dia and 4cm high.
