Hi All

I've finally got round to building a guitar, with materials arriving in the coming weeks. I'm looking for an affordable way to buff the nitrocellulose finish that I'm going to lay down on the guitar.

This is probably a stupid question, but I was wondering if I could use solid Menzerna polishing compounds, like these:

With foam pads, like these:

I ask, because it seems like an affordable solution, and since I don't have a buffer, I could do it with my drill.

However, I fear the worst...

Thanks in advance

Hugo

I've considered this in the past too and although not tried here's a helpful site re what colours and grades to use:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polishing_(metalworking)
http://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/acatalog/Polishing_Compounds.html - hard menzerna compounds

However they are not designed for a paint finish - you might get away with the ones that have no cutting action. A better idea would be :

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polish/menzerna-250ml/cat_28.html designed for car paint (2pack) which is similar to nitro.
