Hi everyone,

I recently bought a job lot of chisels, all C19th sheffield ones but one was a 3/8" gouge which someone had tried to make into a bent gouge by bending it at the top just before the handle.

The question is as it is snapped where it was bent could it be welded together or something?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Short answer no, long answer yes but you would need to normalise it, as you would have a hardened area round the weld which will be very brittle and liable to snap. It's a lot of work to do properly it's easier and safer to get a new one.
