Doing some work on some double door frames and realised that the side jambs have been cut slightly splayed, about 9mm.
Does anyone know why this might have been done?
Thought it might be to do with leading edge type closing stuff but the doors themselves have quite pronounced leading edges.
They are wide doorways with double margin doors.
Would be interested to know. Thanks!

Don't think so. They are quite high quality linings with facing frames as well as jambs. The meeting edge of the facing has been planed back to accommodate the angle. That said I'd need to check a load of the other frames and see.,
Anyhoo, any other thoughts?

Are we talking about the same thing here
I refer to the legs of the frame that the door attaches to with hinges on one side and the latch/keep the other side
And if by splayed you mean the distance between the legs is greater at the bottom than top then yes they have been poorly fitted or have been fitted to suit an old door that has already been planed down

If by splayed you mean that the leg on one side projects further into the room than the other leg at either the top or bottom then this has been done to fit a twisted door or have just been fitted badly or less likely the frames have been fitted properly but the walls either side of the frame are not in line along the height of the doorway giving you the discrepancy
