1st question.
If you do a drawing in Sketchup ( free one ) can you then send it to someone with Sketchup Pro to convert it to a .dwg.

2nd question.
Has anyone got Sketchup pro ?

Thanks Geoff

Geoff

Yes, you can send me your .skp file and I can export it as a .dwg file with Sketchup Pro. The exported file only contains the geometry, i.e. no dimensions.

Thanks Andy

That's a nice offer. I have just done a Sketchup course to get my head round the basics and it's coming together now. I can screen grab to get PDF's but may want some .dwg files for templates in the future. Is there any other reason for getting Sketchup Pro . I am using it mainly for drawings for projects and not on a professional level. Thanks Geoff

I was fortunate to be given the Pro version as a gift otherwise I would have gone for the free version. I think the Pro version has limited advantages over the free version - export to different file formats, ability to produce scale drawings.

Hi Giff, from your most recent post I see that you are wanting to print templates. Guessing, I would think these are 2D. There is another way. The plugin mentioned in my signature is designed to allow the full scale printing of 2D drawings from the free version of Sketchup. It will only work on drawings done on the 'front' view, does not like Components or Groups, and will show all your 'hidden' lines. Drawings larger than the standard paper sizes are tiled and reference marks added.

Dave Richards wrote a piece on his blog about the plugin and its use.

As a bonus, GSView, the program used for printing the file, is able to convert the drawing to a number of different image formats.
