Good to see your work Alan, the carbide scrapers are very useful, but you will find that no tool dominates turning as they all have a useful function that, while other tools can substitute, they cannot perform as efficiently or as well. For bowls, the natural curve that a traditional bowl has that is, a proper bowl gouge will not only help you to get that shape, but kept sharp and used correctly, will leave a very fine finish meaning a minimal amount of sanding is required to finish the piece.
