I guess he has found a system that works for him, I note that he is talking working to 3 decimal places on dimensions for his smaller segments :shock:

The reason for using a sander is because you cannot plane a ring of segment when they have been glued. A ring needs to be flat and even to match up with the next ring. If the rings were not flat the turning would be wobbly
