I've recently got a ryobi ap10n thicknesser which is due new set of blades.

It did come with a set but they are the wrong size.

Google doesn't bring up anything in the UK or much info at all.

Anyone have one and/or know if the blades are disposable or resharpenable ones?

There was a mention of a Freud c600? Having the same blades.

Any one know of another machine that shares parts with it?

Regards.

Yeah I saw those.

Mine are solid with two small notches at either end but I don't know if they are the original blades and if the notches are needed.

I also don't know if the extra 'n' at the end of the model number makes a difference.
Sometimes it has no relevance to parts, sometimes it does.

Just taken it apart. The notches play no part in it. The blade is fixed to the holder by 2 small screws at each end, which is in turn fixed to the cutter block by 6 larger screws.

Dimensions are 263mm/ 15mm/ 3mm

It would seem that any blade that size would fit providing the two holes matched or I could tap some into it maybe? Is the entire blade hardened or just the knife edge area?

I had a measure of the 2 fixing screws. Centres are 41mm from edge and 5mm from back of blade.

A closer look at the blade shows a separate knife edge. Like the tips on a tct saw blade.

You said these aren't original blades so would anything from here fit your planer ? http://www.lockwoodsaws.co.uk/lockwood. ... tartcount=

I don't see any notches but thought these things clamped into place with screw and locknut

Yeah I don't think it is an original blade because its supposed to be a 260mm blade and the ones that are fitted are 263mm.
3 mm on a balanced set of blades seems strange.

The blades I've seen for the AP-10 are different to the AP-10n. Well the ones by Freud but say they fit the AP-10.
They look taller and have several punch outs in them.

The closest I can see is the right length and depth but is 3mm too high. I'm not sure what the clearance is inside the machine.

I really didn't think it would be this difficult to find blades for it. I've trawled through pages of info all of it useless.

Will ring a couple of companies and see if they can sharpen them maybe. I don't know if they can or not if they are disposable.

This will teach me for being a tight wad.

Yeah, shame there's no image and I didn't check to see if they had any in stock

There's still plenty of time for other members to read your post though and they're a lot cleverer than me

Would be worth your time trying to find how deep the slot for you cutters is - the link I gave you stated 30mm deep which is twice what you stated and I saw blades that size on the first link

Give Roy Arrowsmith at Woodford Woodworking Machines a call, he is doing a huge line in replacement planer knives and if you give him the dimensions I'm sure he will be able to fix you up.

Quick update.

Spoke to woodford woodworking. Weren't much help and said nothing could be done.

Spoke to doug at cutting solutions. A very nice man and although he couldn't do anything for me, he did recommend a company just down the road from me (Canaan Carbides).

The blades are HSS tipped steel so wont stay sharp as long as TCT but at £2 a blade, I'm happy with that and there is a fair few sharpenings left of it. That should see me through until I've got space for a bigger machine.

It's such a shame these small local companies don't have much of a web presence, they must lose out on so much business.

I'd much rather give my money (and even pay a bit more) to a small, friendly, local company than a big international one that is only driven by money.

Maybe there could be a section on the forum for small business recommendations, sorted by area?

Thanks to all for the info and fingers crossed the blades come back balanced, straight and sharp.

Glad you got something sorted

And yes, perhaps a separate forum would help, but I seem to remember there is a thread on here somewhere for listing suppliers so you might want to add something to that (I think its in general)

EDIT - its this one, but meant for online retailers the-list-this-way-to-online-tool-store-heaven-e-commerce-t960.html

So perhaps another sticky for the smaller guys half of who probably haven't heard of the web but can spot if something's out by half knats b*ll*ck from 300 yards ?

I'm thinking perhaps name, area, number and what they managed to do for you that nobody else could or would ?
