I'm desperate for a sliding mitre saw, but have the rather specific stipulations that it has the compact sliding rail, the ability to trench cut and be around the £300 mark. This saw seems to tick all those boxes!

I've been to see it in store and it looks pretty good. Has anybody got one? or have used one?

It's a bit odd to see that a store like homebase has it cheaper than Amazon!?

It doesn't surprise me that homebase are cheaper on this. Both B&Q and Homebase have very competitive pricing on the Ryobi stuff. I think they must have some kind of sales based deal with them or something.

I bought a Ryobi angle grinder from B&Q a few years back and it was the cheapest of anywhere, including online. Terrible angle grinder btw, it died quickly too. Judging by the reviews of the mitre saw, it should last longer than the grinder though :)

I decided to go with this after another viewing. All in all, at this early stage, I think it's a well built machine.

Initial thoughts :

- Easy to carry
- Very sturdy
- Clamp is slow to use
- Dust bag is useless
- Low fences with no holes for attaching sacrificial fence, so will have to drill your own
- I think it's ever so slightly out of square, but that can be correted by moving the fence
- Trench cut requires backing fence, but I think that is the same for most saws
- Extension wings are useful and very strong
- Very loud! - took the blade off and it's a lot quieter, so hopefully with a Freud Laser Cut Expansion Slots blade it will be ok
- No soft start, so there is a noticable kick when you power it on
