Hi

I bought one of these when they were on offer a few years ago - excellent value for money, compares favourably with my Record Power 4000 chucks of which it's a clone. Anyone after a scroll chuck on a budget should seriously consider this one IMO.

Regards Mick

I bought the XT450 from Rutlands when they were on offer, I think this is it's big brother. I then changed my lathe to the Nova 1624 (11/4 x 8 tpi) and bought an insert from Stiles and Bates which fitted perfectly and meant I could keep it as my secondery chuck with all of the jaws I bought with it.

So Greg, all may not be lost if you fancy it because i'm pretty sure if you check you will find it's a Nova clone and their inserts will fit.

Steve

Yeah, I got that e-mail too. Always happens when I'm particularly skint. I think the thread insert for the Myford comes in at about £20 inc. P&P too.

Looks great, Nev.....
Except if you've got a 1 1/4 x 8TPI lathe!!! Grrrr

There is a (not so elegant) solution.

RP sell a 1 1/4" to 1" spindle adaptor http://www.recordpower.co.uk/category/lathe-adaptors

It works well if you don't mind the extra length.

Bill
There OK until you want to turn large out of balance logs then the extra length will play havoc with your bearings

Hi Nev,
That Rutlands offer looks good, but it's really annoying to find so often that the chucks are only available in a limited range of sizes (always Record lathes of course).

Axminster currently have a £10 discount offer (or £20 depending on which advert you look at - although the final price is still the same) on their K10 chucks kit, but their temp out of stock. Perhaps they'll reduce their chucks further when their new Evolution chuck becomes available?

How do I find out if this will fit my lathe? I just bought it 2 days ago and so far I don't know the first thing about them. The guy I got it off suggested I get one of these at some point.

I have a Multico Junior. I assumed from the name it would be quite small but its 5 or 6 ft long.

Thanks for the replies, guys; problem is my question must not have been phrased properly. I wasn't thinking of getting an adaptor, but re-threading the chuck body to fit the Myford - so need to know if there is enough metal outside the 1" by 8 thread to allow me to cut a 1.125" thread.
And are the jaws compatible with those for the Record 4000?

Hi Dick

I've attached photos of the Dakota chuck with the thread adaptor and backplate removed so as you can see the body available for re-threading. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of dust and crud inside the chuck - pretty good for about four years use :D .

I can also confirm that RP 4000 jaws will fit the Dakota and vice versa - see photos (Record jaw is the smaller capacity). Hope this helps, if you need dims let me know.

Mick, that's fantastic, complete answer thanks. Looks like plenty of metal to re-thread, so can do a bit of measuring to see if the 1/16" that will be available beyond the 1" thread will be enough to hold.
