Has anyone tried using solar power without a battery or controller in an electrolysis tank? I don't have mains power at the workshop so using a battery charger as recommended is a no go, so having thoughts about solar or a wind genny, anyone tried either of them, how long does the process take. I have a wind genny that only puts out 11V and plenty of wind in the winter might just give it a go.

Well 11V is enough if the amperage is sufficiently high. Two or three of the most recent articles I read on this were using old or spare phone chargers which give can give out less than half that. I have one beside me here that's 5.0V at 0.9A, don't know how typical that is as I'm not into phones at all.

Have you tried other rust-removal methods that don't rely on leccy? Although there are some cheap ones if you're generating your own electricity I don't think anything can beat out electrolysis on the cost front and it does usually do a top job.

I don't think you will get enough current from a solar cell or a wind generator, a car battery will work if you charge it up and take it to the shed.
