Ruler trick with leather strop

To return to Mouppe's original question, I think stropping with some form of fine abrasive is not quite the same as the ruler trick.

Very similar but not quite the same.

The ruler trick provides an extremely low and totally repeatable back bevel of about 2/3rds of one degree. The use of abrasive on leather is just a method of creating an extra fine abrasive surface. But this surface has some give, while the stone is solid.

It would be interesting to know what angle a strop imposes on the blade back?

best wishes,
David

Dunno it's a difficult one. Do you think you will ever get to the bottom of it Dave?
