Don't suppose anyone knows where I can get spares or knows what size I need, £5 + £5 postage for 8 screws is taking the mickey

My guess would be M5 or M6 countersunk screws but you ought to be able to measure that (M5 will be a shade under 5mm diameter, M6 will be a shade under 6mm diameter).
The length you need is the distance from the top of the countersink to the end of the screw.

Black 10.9 grade screws will be more than strong enough for your purposes IMHO.

Hi

You need M5 x 12mm - and as Chipmunk says, this is the overall length. I see you live around Manchester, any good hardware retailer will be able to supply over the counter - I think last time I bought these in Aberdeen they were about 5p each.

I usually pick up a selection of sizes from Screwfix every now and then, unfortunately I can't see 5mm at 12mm long.

but at £2.27 for 50 I'd consider shortening a few.

I live 4 miles from AHC and it's a gem Proper old style brown overall's hardware store with a veritable arsenal of fastenings and fixings. They pride themselves in never failing to supply a fixing for any application incl Whitworth etc.....Fork 'andles???

5.8mm over thread
10mm overall length (including head)
10.36mm over head
4mm allen key socket

Would appear to be 6mm then not 5mm.
