Been thinking of making a router table as a project and looking at various plans ... will any router be able to be used for a shop made router table or is it only certain types that can be adapted for use in one?

if buying new look for one with above table adjustment. one model of triton has this, certainly.

within reason, pretty much any router can be used though. Another one worth looking at is the draper dual base one- leave the fixed base in the table.

Also.....really it should be a 1/2" shank size ie the bigger of the hand held family. 1/4" routers are no good for big cutters like field raising bits. If you ever plan to make panelled doors which is a great project for a router table, a 1/4" router wont have the grunt or the safety for that job or indeed any job that requires a stable cutter.

The Trend T11EK is the one I use...grunt and topside adjustment.

yes- i should have added that too.

Also look for one that you can change bits without having to remove it from the table - the triton is good for this too, you wind it up and it locks the spindle so just one spanner needed.
