It recently occurred to me that with diesel costing about £1.15 per litre and bottles of mineral water costing about the same for half a litre from chiller cabinets, perhaps diesel is not so expensive after all. It always felt expensive when I was filling up my old Land River Discovery, but perhaps I should feel relieved that it ran on diesel and not chilled water!!
I still smile when I think of the warning notice on the inside of the filler flap. It read 'warning, do not overfill'. Yeah, as if I could afford to.

I like your analogy, just wondering if you could use tap diesel like I prefer tap water. ? :)

Bottled water is the biggest con of all time!

Of course what you're really paying for is the cost of transporting bottles of water around, which uses up fuel and labour. Instead of moving lumps of heavy objects around, wouldn't be easier to send water in a long pipe...

With the news that even non VW diesels produce 5 times the permitted level of pollution in real world tests I suspect diesel fuel duty may be adjusted upwards in the near future. Luckily we can still get potable water out of the tap at very modest cost. Shame a decent bottle of bubbly costs so much.

I think that this has been common knowledge for some time - the EU tests don't test road-like conditions, so they don't get road-like results. Surprise!

You should come to Saudi , a litre of petrol is roughly 7p , and half a litre of water is double that !
