I picked up an 8" woodie at yesterday's car boot sale. It had the name RICHMAR and SHEFFIELD MADE on the tapered blade. An internet search came up with this which is identical except for the blade.
Does anybody know anything about this brand and was I caught for £1?
I also bought a tapered, laminated F.G. Pearson blade and cap iron also for £1. :D

With common, standardised planes such as this smoother, I think the brand is less important than the overall condition. Richmar is not a name I recognise but in my experience most old Sheffield steel is good and there were a great many firms making similar items.

FG Pearson are listed in BPM III as being active from 1856 to 1957, but styled as "FG Pearson & Sons" after 1935.

Thanks for the information. My blade is marked F.G. Pearson Company Ltd. so looks to be earlier than 1935.
