Some of you might have seen this. A year or two ago we cut some Rhodies down in our garden and I kept a couple of bits, thinking that it might be possible to turn on the lathe for something.

Instead I have just sliced it on the bandsaw to make some miniplanks about 123mm by 60mm which I will use to make a desktop organiser thingy.

The wood is very nice - lots of figure, light but strong and hard. It works very nicely too. I now wish I had kept more. So if you see a slash and burn party at work, it would be worth cadging some bigger pieces.
 
We need to see some piccies of those planks. My Mum and Dad had a Viburnum that snuffed it suddenly, it was in the same bed that another shrub/tree died quickly of fungal rot, wonder if it was this disease
