Hi everyone I have just acquired this writing slope I am not an expert but a I do have a few of these around the house.
This one dates from between 1780 and 1800 and is made from solid wood. The other boxes I have restored have been veneered.

I think you will be able to see my biggest problem the lid has two splits in it, I want to repair these splits however the lid is held together with brass corners which are screwed in place with the original metal screws which I don't want to try to remove as I cant replace them.

My questions are which glue should I use it is either mahogany or rosewood and should I reinforce the inside of the lid.

As with many of these boxes there were two secret drawers one of which contained documents relating to the lady who I presume owned this box they detailed her bequests

Any help wold be appreciated

Michael
