I recently bought a Holzmann HOB260NL thickness/planer as part of my shop build up. When I ordered it, my shop would remain in my garage and I had no plans on putting 3-phase power out there. Now my plans have changed, and my shop will eventually be in a 5m x 5m finished section of my basement and will be wired with 400/230 3-phase power.
Today, I ran a 3-phase feeder into my garage because I don't know how long it will take to convert the space in the basement. I also ordered a 400V dust extractor, so that forced me to upgrade my garage.
I have the option of changing out the motor and control circuits in the HOB260NL for about €300. Holzmann will sell me the motor, switches, and other unique items; although, the salesman prefers to sell me another machine.
Is it worth the expense to change the motor, or should I leave it as is? My basement shop will have a dedicated 40A 3-phase distribution panel, and currently, the only 3-phase loads will be the dust collector and eventually the table saw. Everything else will be 230V.
