I have a zigzag crack in my house rendering which I believe is a settlement crack. What is the best way to repair it?

I thought to open it out, paint with Unibond and use a mortar mix to patch it. Is there a better way?

Yes. If you use a disc cutter to clean the crack out, you can dovetail it so the repair has a much better chance of staying put. Wash the dust out before the PVA. I use a garden mister so as not to get it too wet. I've read that PVA makes no difference, but I did some coping stone years ago with my bil (that's what he maintained) and after a few years every one he did came off and every one I did is still there.

Dont bother with pva for render unless its the waterproof type...use sbr which is made for usees like this, make sure all the loose is well raked out before

I guess F&S means Make sure that you use the exterior grade unibond, which I believe comes in the RED containers and kiln dried sand is always better for this use, normally used in kiddies sand playbox.
There's a man who did some of these here and was really good at it, couldn't see a mark when finished, and painted until you were about 3 feet away, and then just the odd mark. Regards Rodders
