Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, not really sure where to ask it.

Anyway, I have in my possesion a wooden framed (looking at the back of it) carved mirror. My SO has pointed out that the gold doesn't go with the other frames in the room.

So has asked if I can strip it back to bare wood and finish in a similar fashion to the other frames. ( This part is not a problem)

How the heck do I go about removing the gold finish as I can't sand it due to the carving. I was thinking of using heat and coarse wire wool?

Or perhaps some generic paint remover from wickes/screwfix or similar.

Thanks.

cant see it being real gold, so its a paint. paint remover works well.
If its gold leaf, its worth more so sell it on and buy another that suits your decor.

Should have put the gold in the title as "gold". It doesn't look like leaf so paint stripper it is.

Do check that you actually have wood under the paint. The carving could be cast plaster, with wood as the backing only. Find a rarely seen spot and scrape the paint away to check what's underneath.
