Found this burr while sorting through my bags of blanks so decided to turn this one today,as the hollow form i had started ended up in the fire pile :(
That was a piece of Cherry that i had cut and had drying for five years and all looked well on the outside but as i was hollowing cracks just started to appear. The first ones i glued to try and save it but as i got deeper more appeared so called it a day with it.
Enter the Red Malle burr. :)
This was a piece given to me at one of my bashes,so thanks to who ever donated it :D
I wanted to leave some of the natural burr showing on the underneath,so as i turned it the one side was about as thick as i wanted to leave it leaving the other side thicker and showing the natural burr,so worked out ok.
There is also a bore hole showing so looks like it was infected at some time??
Size is 12-1/2" x 11" x 2".
Comments welcome.

Lovely bit if timber Paul, nice simple form, makes the most of the pattern. Pity about the hollow form though.

You should have sorted out that wood pile earlier Paul, good to see natural ragged edge, so many times a blank is spoilt by someone running a chainsaw or bandsaw across an edge leaving an unnatural cut edge.

A very well turned piece love the colour of it. You certainly have done it justice

Wish I could find a piece of burr like that in my wood pile can I come around and help you sort the rest out   :D :D :D

That's Nice Paul love the grain pattern Again turned to Your excellent standard
regards
Bill
