Recorded 2506 side rebate plane fence

Gents,

I have an old Record 2506 side rebate plane. I have never had cause to use it but noticed on eBay when trawling that some of the 2506's listed have a fence.

Mine does not have a fence, I assume they were all sold with a fence? Again, I assume as mine (and others on eBay) do not have a fence it is fair to say they have been lost at some point in its' history?

The plane I have looks to be in very good condition so hoping the absence of the fence does not render it useless. If this is the case then does anyone know if replacement spares are available and if so is there a reputable source to contact.

They were not all sold with a fence. So, as there are more planes than fences the chance of finding one anywhere are slim.
If you really want one it would only need basic metalworking skills to make one.

In my experience, having the fence does make it easier to use but they are not essential.

IIRC they were first sold as the 2506 without a fence, or the screw hole to fit one; then as the 2506S if it had the optional fence, then it became standard and reverted to 2506. Or something like that. Without the fence it tends to cut progressively deeper unless you grind off the tip of the iron just right.

I was using my 2506 tonight. It has a nasty crack in the body of it; I've just bought some brazing rods to attempt a repair. If it all goes horribly wrong, I may be left with a spare fence ...
