Hello there,

I've just started setting up my Record BS500 bandsaw and when setting the blade tension etc I noticed that when spinning the wheels free hand the lower wheel makes a terrible screeching sound ever turn or so. I set it up and instructed by the manual and fired it up. Sounds fine when running but when stopping the machine is screeches like a banshee whilst the blade is stopping. It's definite from the lower half/motor so I'm guessing it's a bearing or some form of rubbing inside the motor?

anyone got any experience with this sort of thing?

Thanks!

Hi there

Could be the bearings on the lower wheel. Not overly expensive to replace yourself.

HTH

Thanks for the advice, I called Record themselves and they even finished my sentence to them! haha they must get this asked a lot! Apparently in the motor there's a disc somewhere used for breaking that needs cleaning? No idea what he means really but I'll take the fan cover off and take a look!

Update! I spoke to a different tech at Record Power who said something similar, yet vastly different hahah.

Apparently it's definitely the brakes.. and as I just found out by removing the fan cover it isn't possible to self service ANYTHING on the motor yourself with the BS500. However the service was fantastic and they offered to send out a technician to look at the motor for free

Well you really cant grumble at service like that, especially on a secondhand machine.

The guys at record will furnish you with the diagrams to do this. Its probably only a few bolts anyway.

Failing that take a few snaps and I'm sure one of the guys here will help you.

All the best

Not at all. It's refreshing to receive customer service that actually backs up the "5 year guarantee" stickers plastered everywhere with the brand name! :D
