I can't get he blade on my Record 09 1/2 block plane to stick out far enough to contact the timber.

This is the Record model with the horizontal brass adjustment wheel, unlike the newer version with the vertical wheel.

At the top of the travel of the wheel, the edge of the blade is just touching the edge of the throat.

Is it a case of getting a new blade, or could I try elongating the slot in the blade?

Without pictures it's hard to sus the problem. You can't move the iron down another notch? Or is it very worn and simply too short? When new it would have been ~4 3/8" long.

Cheers, Vann.

Here is a photo of my one which may be useful for comparison.

It's blade number one with eleven notches.

I can't move it down a notch as the oval slot in the middle of the blade rests against the disc on the top of the lateral adjustment lever.

However, as my blade is only just over 4 inches, Vann's measurement of 4 3/4 inch highlights my problem.

So it looks like a new blade is needed. Can any recommend a good place to get one?
