Why, oh why do we spend so much money on gadgets. I suppose the answer is we love beautiful, functional tools. And to me this, is no exception. Solid brass, stainless steel, and Rosewood, to me is a thing of beauty, it feels good in the hand, and with its bevelled cutting blade holds Tight to the fence and makes a sharp and clear line.
There is however one little niggle. The micro adjustment is brilliant, but has a drawback. When you have got the marking gauge set to roughly the position you want, And need to switch to the micro adjustment, it involves unscrewing the brass rounded nut on the bottom of the Rosewood handle, Releasing the main brass locking thumb screw, While trying to hold the bottom micro adjustment nut with your thumb without moving it, which I seem to do all the time.
Rather tan try to explain See the you- tube video here. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 3qM_1wQsSQ
The answer is fairly simple. I used a R 03 o-ring slipped onto the stainless steel rod and left permanently on there when I want to use the micro adjustment I undo the rounded nut a few turns and slid the o-ring up as a stop, then you can do all the adjustments you want without inadvertently moving the initial rough adjustment.
I know perhaps to most of you it may not be a problem, holding it steady, but for me it is and I thought I would post my solution for what it's worth.
On the whole I love it
