Can anyone shed any light on what are the little white streaks In this wood I have experienced recently when planning or chiselling?

Thank you

I've noticed the same thing, the pieces with streaks in them blunt blades a lot faster so keep them sharp, it's just mineral streaks I think, you sometimes get the same thing in mahogany as well so I presume it's silica.

Thank you for your replies, I thought that it was peculiar to my piece of wood. What happens you put finish on the parts that have the "streak"?

They usually disappear the crystals are clear but when you break them up they reflect the light just like sugar or polar bears.
