ink for the printer came this morning, thought great after dinner get the ink system filled and run off a few photos and give it a bit of maintanence, if only life was so simple, some of the tubes were clogged with dried ink, ended up having to strip it all down and clean with cleaning fluid, 4 hours later we have a fully functioning ink system, word of caution, give your printers a weekly workout to stop the ink drying out,

Have you got a cis system fitted? I've got a brand new printer I haven't used for 18 months. I'm also worried that the one week I don't use it will render it knackered. Turns out I don't need a printer as much as I thought !

hi Coley, yes it's a ciss system, 18 months is a long time not use it, mine was about 4 months without use, i think it was the fact that the ink had receeded back into the resevoirs and left airlocks in the tubing, i won't leave it that long again, lesson learnt

I got fed up with the ink drying out so switched to a black and white laser for printing my patterns and it works out mega cheap compared to my Canon inkjet. I get a twin pack of toner on Ebay for around £9.00 including postage and it lasts ages and doesn`t dry up
If i want any photos printing i use Photobox and they have loads of special offers

if i was only doing basic stuff that would be fine, but i use mine for wedding photos, portraits, canvas prints and will be doing my backscenes for the railway, but i haven't had much photography work for a while and i hadn't bothered getting more ink until now,

We bought a Canon inkjet many years ago to replace an Epson that failed to work after a house move. After some initial use we didn't use the Canon for well over a year but when it was used again it just started turning out perfect prints without even a head clean. I must admit I was very surprised at this. It's still working but has developed a dodgy power switch so we're leaving it on standby now. Not sure what to replace it with when it does fail to work as most of the printer reviews I've read recently haven't been very good.

I've left it brand new unused in the box, till I can guarantee I'll print at least once a week.

Saw on the news last week that HP have updated their firmware so that HP printers will only work with HP cartridges - so no look alikes, cheaper cartridges will work.
I have an Epson and occasional I will get a "cartridge not recognised" message even with new cartridges (a
Best not Epson ones).

We've been using cheap cartridges in our Canon printer for quite some time and it's been working fine. We get them from 7dayshop.

I got sick to death of print heads clogging because of only occasional use so I bought a Xerox colour laser. It can stand a year and print out perfectly, no more locgged heads and the toners are cheaper to buy than my old Epson printer cartidges.

Its over 10 years since I used an inkjet, all with the above problems about clogging etc. Now use a cheap Epson colour laserjet which was on special offer at about 80 quid. Use compatible toners at about 70 quid for a full set and last about a couple of years. Use a brother 2130 for b/w printing. Under 10 quid for a refill.

Or just leave it powered on, my HP that I use quite infrequently gives itself a bit of exercise around midnight every night and is always perfect when called upon
