What? Didn't you drill the pocket holes with a round drill? The plugs also need to be round (cylindrical) to fill the holes.

If I read the problem correctly the plug cutter essentially makes a short length of dowel which does not corespond with the holes left by the pockets.
I think I have seen somewhere that you set the wood to make the plugs on an angl to match the pockets in a pillar drill. This will make a plug with a sloped side and the grain running in the right direction.

Correct that,s better explained if you find where you seen it let me know if you would please =D>

I bought a Kreg plug cutter, but never used it. I decided if I made something with the Kreg, then it wasn't exactly going to be fine furniture; so I leave the holes as they are. Maybe for outside work I'd use putty to fill them over. But there's no real need if you use the exterior grade Kreg-screws in pressure treated timber.
